Valentina Doushina

has over 15 years of experience designing and managing complex, high performance optical systems and product engineering programs for applications in medical instruments, projection systems, space & atmospheric sciences, communications, remote sensing, laser metrology, environmental measurements, and pollution monitoring from conceptual, optical, and opto-mechanical design and modeling, tolerance analysis, error budgeting, leading to prototype, and manufacturing. She has been employed by Qioptiq Polymer, Inc. as the Director of Engineering; Advanced Medial Optics; Metrolaser, Inc.; Corning, Inc.; Sensors for Rolling Mills, George KELK Corporation; Raytheon, Elcan Optical Technologies; Center for Research Earth and Space Science, York University.

Valentina is the Lead Instructor at the University of California Irvine, Extension; teaching the Optical Engineering and Instrument Design Certificate Program. She taught similar program at CACT and ATEP in the past. Valentina taught the SPIE full day class “Integration of Optical and Mechanical Design (SC983)” and is a regular contributor of technical articles to optics and photonics periodicals

She has been nominated for her specific achievements in optical instrument design, engineering and education as an SPIE Senior member in 2010.

Valentina obtained her M.Sc. in Earth and Space/Atmospheric Science from York University in Toronto, Canada and also holds a M.Sc. and BA in Electrical Engineering majoring in Electro-Optical Photonics Instrumentation Design from St. Petersburg Electro Technical University, Russia. She is the current President of the Optical Society of Southern California (OSSC).
